Born in 1970 in Arthabaska Regional County Municipality in Central Quebec (Canada), Sonia Jam studies photography in the city of Trois-Rivières. After her training, she is quickly recruited by a company active in the photography industry. In 1995 she launches Sonia Jam, photographe, her own Montreal-based business and presents, one year later, two photo exhibits in the city of Laval.

In 1997, photo graphing a pregnant woman for the first time leads her to unearth a fresh passion that's still growing to this day. Over time, several of her pictures have graced magazine covers and illustrated many articles featuring the subject of maternity.

In 2002 and 2003, two exhibits are held in the city of Montreal to celebrate her 500th and 1000th portraits of pregnant women.

In 2005, Sonia creates a unique world-wide event to celebrate her 2000th portrait. After having asked all of Quebec's pregnant women to come together, she immortalizes the 1,100 that have gathered for her on a single picture, as a way of celebrating the joy of carrying life within and bringing children into the world.

In 2006, she renews the experience, by inviting dads to come together and pose for her with their less than one year old offspring this time around. An astounding 1,200 dads answer her call.

In 2007, Sonia sets up the Maternity Foundation (www.fondationmaternite.org), a non-profit organization dedicated to catering to the needs of pregnant women.

In 2008, she concludes her trilogy, the only work of art of its kind in the world to pay tribute to life in such a fashion, by photographing elders with their grand-children.

Approximately 2,600 pregnant women have been seen and photographed by Sonia up until now. With her ongoing passion for babies still burning bright, she now plans to travel the world in her quest to meet and help more and more pregnant women.
