Setting up the
Maternity Foundation

The idea of setting up the Maternity Foundation dates back to June 2005, as Sonia Jam was in Peru touring maternity clinics, meeting with pregnant women and doctors. At this time, it was explained to her that the human and material resource shortages were quite impactful, as was the lack of assistance on the social and nutritional fronts, among others. All of these resources are instrumental to women in helping them carry full term, healthy pregnancies.

This instance brought on a decisive turn for Sonia, who then proceeded to set up her foundation, seeing she could no longer help these needy women all by herself. Once again back at home, wheels were set in motion and the Foundation was born. For all studio shoots with Sonia, ten dollars go directly towards the Maternity Foundation. This allows for several hundreds of dollars to be amassed on an annual basis in order to help pregnant women abroad. You can also help, through your income deductible charity donation or by participating to our annual dinner; this year held on September the 8th. For more details or questions, please feel free to call at all times or send in an email through this Web site, we will answer you with great pleasure.

Our Mission

To allow women to live out their pregnancy in health and harmony, in order to ensure a safe delivery for both mothers and their unborn babies.

Our Objectives

To help pregnant women improve their life conditions, their health and that of their babies, in order to lower the risk of maternal and infantile death, in a manner respectful of each woman and her traditions.

First project

-Priority is given to gathering funds in order to provide assistance to the "Es Salud de Satipo" hospital in Peru.

-Providing an ultra-sound machine, a sterilizer for medical instruments, an incubator for premature babies and generally upgrading delivery room facilities and medical equipment at "Es Salud de Satipo".

-Supporting the Maternity Center in the village of Satipo by upgrading their facilities and examination rooms to allow for a more private doctor/ patient rapport, by supplying furniture, or better yet if possible, by relocating the Center to more adequate grounds.

-Supplying vitamins or food supplements and generally providing better living and sanitary conditions for pregnant women during their pregnancies and for new moms in the very first days following the birth of their child.

The evening was pure magic, laced with international flavors. During a delectable ten-course Asian dinner, the subject of maternity was broached by speakers from various ethnic backgrounds, and dancers from foreign countries demonstrated their savoir-faire. Hosted by a renowned Montreal DJ, dancing was provided, numerous prizes were auctioned off, and of course photographer Sonia Jam's picture "Un an + tard… Papa Bébé" was officially unveiled.

"It was an unforgettable evening! Many heartfelt thanks for your great generosity."
